Automating Repetitive Tasks
Stop doing the same work twice — use Claude Code to automate file processing, text manipulation, and recurring workflows
Automating repetitive tasks
You've been using Claude Code for one-off tasks: cleaning a file, answering a question, generating a chart. Now it's time to stop doing the same work twice.
This module is about spotting the tasks you repeat every week — the file renames, the report formatting, the data cleanup — and turning them into something Claude Code handles in seconds. You'll learn how to identify what's worth automating, run bulk operations across hundreds of files, process text and documents at scale, and save your best workflows as reusable commands you can trigger with a single word.
What you'll learn
- How to spot tasks that are worth automating (and which ones aren't)
- Running your first automation: from one-off task to repeatable workflow
- Bulk file operations: renaming, converting, and organizing hundreds of files at once
- Text and document processing: find-and-replace, extraction, format conversion
- Mail merge and template filling from spreadsheet data
- Saving workflows as slash commands you can reuse and share
- Common automation mistakes and how to recover from them
- Building your personal automation toolkit
What you'll need
- Claude Code installed and working (Module 1)
- Comfort with the conversation cycle: ask, review, iterate (Module 2)
- Familiarity with data files and Claude Code's file operations (Module 3)
The data skills from Module 3 carry straight into this work. Weekly reports, regular cleanups, recurring file processing — same conversation skills, same verification habits, just applied to work that repeats.
Exercise: Clean, analyze, and chart sales data
Put your data skills to work by using Claude Code to clean a messy CSV, answer business questions, create a chart, and verify the numbers
